In the South before the Civil War, an enslaved woman secretly learned from her master’s business dealings. After his illness created chaos, she used her savings and knowledge to buy the plantation that once enslaved her, turning it into a place of fairness, education, and hope.

Alec and Indigo, two saxophone players, became friends through their shared love of jazz after meeting at an open mic night. Their friendly rivalry pushed them through late night gigs and doubts. When they were invited to open for Cortex, they prepared together, ready to step on stage and share their music.

Description: The brick cover art for this project represents the steps we took to build momentum along with trials and tribulations we all go through as artists. From the opening track on Volume I, “WAKE UP!”, to the outro on Volume II, “Coonman”, Imani displays floetry over heartfelt instrumentals. It’s a jacking for beats, a sound the youth in me has always been yearning for.
